Family of eight in huge converted tour bus!

So we're at Dupree campground east of Lake Okeechobee and this rig was here when we got

here and of course we're fascinated because like what's going on inside of this vehicle is

it a tour bus what's happening we met a couple that are inside with their family it's Joel

and Patty and actually helped illustrate my springs on Martin and Nellie's Zion back there

so I thought we'd take a peek inside here first let's look at the outside.

So what exactly is this vehicle I don't even it's just eggs up this is a Prevost h5 - 60

okay um Prevost is a very good company for making buses but this bus here there's only 46

of them built from 1988 to 1992 so they're rare and so obviously this was a tour bus for

the Maritime Museum that's right yeah so they used to take this bus and go from Halifax

Nova Scotia to Peggy's Cove and that's what's at four-hour trip three hour drive or

something no yeah and you saw it for sale and you thought yeah we just have to have that

well we wer looking for something big this is our third boondocking excursion around the

country around the US and our first one was in the Volkswagen car we convert it to an RV.

We took the we took the back seats out welding this steel frame on the back for the three

children for that little fridge in there put a little toaster oven in there we lived in it

for a month and then we upgraded because we had five children a couple years later that's

three years ago break patty and we took a 40-foot RV at Gulf Stream tourmaster and we

toured around one from New Brunswick down to Florida across the California Western Canada

come back about five months in the RV now we have six kids this is 60 feet long Kohler

stove the 60 foot bus yeah so you can park in downtown's and I reckon lowest parking lots

Park a Home Depot Walmart please really say you can't park RVs and people leave us alone

they come over take a picture of the the Titanic and the huge bus and then they look at it

and then they take pictures and they walk away and that's it so someone acquire how does

that happen they just pop up time time you got this on a website called Kijiji it's

similar to Craigslist yeah I hate I was saying the price but people think I have a lot of

money we don't were a young family without wealthy cost of 7,000 dollars Canadian.

It's like 5,000 us so it was really practical for our families got a lot of space Wow yeah

3403 so what kind of battery system you have the battery is a electric forklift bound REE

the battery here it goes from here to here down now it weighs almost a ton by the it's got

a self watering system so I can take the every once a month or so I'll take distilled

water and pop up the battery makes it last longer the battery is a must tell original you

know get more accurate reading on your battery and I use the cheap PWM charge controllers

which the experts say do not use these but they work great for me and they're way cheaper.

So they're yeah we're just cheap Chinese power inverter 3000 watts nice but we can charge

well that the same as you guys we traded all the buses driving so it's 24 324 volts is the

buses 24 volts can't so everything just goes 24 volts pretty easy yeah so we have a lot of

storage yes I'm seeing that these ones here the motors in the middle so it's actually not

a diesel pusher to diesel puller okay because it's mid mount motor that's one of the

reasons he's bus failed there was 46 built that's it because it was really hard to

maintain the motor it's a detroit v8 92 and 500 horsepower it was 30 years ago yeah but

it's hard you're gonna actually cut the frame out and pull the motor with giant forklift

or something or jacketing tired boss up.

It's also the accordion section requires regular maintenance when there's regular

passengers involved on it 'land so for those two reasons they built 46 and that was it it

was your lucky day you bought two you bought two one for parts and one for okay nice it's

got three steer axles there's two in the front and went back so actually people they see a

saint coming that you can't go or we're going this we can drive it pretty much anywhere as

a 30-foot truck can go because of the turning reason from the center of those two axles to

the center of the middle two and so what a 30-foot turning radius like anyways a 3/4 truck

can go we can go the back axle follows but the towed vehicle those axles don't hit the

curb they're gonna follow where this one goes so encounter steers so when I turn there's a

shaft that goes from the back axle up into here and whenever the corgis been to the back

axle will turn with it but Karin stairs to the Congress tear so match this I'm not gonna

if I do like a 20 to throw you know Wow belt the bus for boondocking exclusively and we

can pull I mean if an RV park would take us which is unlikely we have no 50 amp or 30 amp

plug or even a place to put the water hookup so we create a lot of water on board so you

fourteen hundred litres of fresh water and then 700 of greywater you can go for about a

month with the water we have on board leaders and gallons as well so I think it's what

1750 350.

Okay 50 gallon yep Wow Wow whatever you have 40 36 yeah we owe 30 sir it's our bedroom

nice small factory bathroom oh yeah it's the bus bathroom it's exactly the factory's cool

this is a bacterial bus or showers pretty cool in here started to install a sink works but

it's nothing in fancy yet yeah and we access the restroom up front yeah cool yeah so I

didn't go very fancy with the solar this is my soldiers coming down hey.

Whatever why are you going in and I discovered Gorilla Tape this trip like a gorilla to

hit you so high is that dealing suspension so I can press a button in the bus will drop

down but a nice thing is you guys can see I have about 10 inches of clearance there if I

get to a train track I'm a little bit nervous I can slow the bus down to a crawl press the

button I can raise it up another four to five inches ok the 2 inches extra clearance there

so less likely to hit a train track or whatever also how did you learn how to operate this

thing sorry commercial license back home but actually we its its title this RV and it has

air brakes so if you have your air brake endorsement you can even drive this which is kind

of scary in some ways it's actually really easy going forward it's surprisingly hard to

back up because it cuts so quick back enough I can back a semi-trailer up no problem.

Yes I'm just starting to get the hang of the smaller trailer cuts very quickly yeah how

long have you guys been in it now we've been in it for three months three months and

you're from New Brunswick yep yeah okay and do you do like a big circle trip and go back

in the summertime or what we do I don't know what we're gonna do yes this trip so our last

trip we went from New Brunswick down to Florida California Western Canada and back in five

months we don't have the time constraint this time so we can go longer if we want to.

I'm really not sure if we're going to go as far west this time we were kind of enjoying

Florida except the community yeah thanks for letting us in your home oh wow what a camera

system on here I think it's on right now.

So this is it's a camera system I have seven cameras installed now we can see all the way

around the buses it's recording all the time if I wanted to I don't run meanwhile I'm

driving I justleave it the way it is you can zoom in it's the audio to hear yeah we're at

Walmart at 3 o'clock in the morning and of a sudden with some noises around I can hook us

up to my cell phone and I can see what's going on the bus without near the bus so I can

actually no no it's all it took a lot of work that actually got it through the Wi-Fi local

on the bus so I can I can see it all through there if I might like some results I don't

have a hooked up so I don't have a cell phone I can't see well in Walmart but if I'm

inside I can see it I can also talk through it too so I can tell somebody I love yep I had

this morning LASIK and flash and stuff like most doctors people travel up we just use the

Google Maps but because of the height of the bus were twelve feet four inches and we're

quite wide and long we did finally bite the bullet and buy the RV Garmin which is great it

just gives a little bit extra security if we're going down a road we're not sure it's

gonna have a low bridge or something like that you don't need it too much out west but it

used to do yeah so there's been a couple roads that we're kinda saved this round so that's

a pretty decent visibility up there yeah it was nice windows our shoes so we made some

additions all the windows and the bus or thermal painting except for of course the front

ones so then I just added this ugly blanket but it'll go across and kind of block a lot of

the heat from coming back I love all the overhead compartments yeah so it was a we did

this and we buried the bus in six weeks and really like I mean there's all kinds of ways

to make it look pretty put wood because it's just like wow I love that compartments are

here you know that they work they work alright so look you're left enough seats in the

front so everyone can watch our going forward yeah then we didn't suffer and stuff here I

just installed this table yesterday so this table folds up by bolts and goes down out of

the way.

Wow this is incredible you guys so we have a lot of solar so we can do the toaster oven

and run that off no problem the toaster the fridge was always as well look at that a full

-size fridge well oh wow well pretty much is right that's big through the windows easier

everything that was big in here I had to remove a window and have a bucket truck back home

I was able to swing everything like with a crane through the side so bigger fridge is

harder to swing into yeah yeah like she was at Costco everything here is free retreat all

these cabinet doors and everything I had them laying in my shed for 15 years finally yes

yeah here's their kitchen you like the big buddy heaters we have two of them yeah I just

installed the diesel diesel heater so we lose that oh.

That's impossible.

It's like wow so it's a Chinese knockoff okay same idea can be to use or coffee use a lot

meal and everything else the electric is great you run that off the solar but it's kind of

slow so to make lent or something takes it at twice as much as yeah protein so keep it

easy and works great so nice and when you install it you got this installed Christmas Day

this is re mini-split heat pump running up solar I'm very excited with that we need that

but because I installed it in the side of the bus and not the front because there's easier

for the plumbing for the other lines it you have to use a fan which is unfortunate so you

blow the air kiss or this way blow it that way so it's just the fan is quite loud but I

see yeah we're very excited with that yeah we also installed we get the speaker back here

but but also over on our electric projector you don't watch everybody move why does the

get much much for movies anyway yeah if we want to we can go big that's pretty cool it's

like your own theater yeah I'd say so we thought it'd be good here to get a brand new

couch from the RV dealership it was really cheap and it folds out into a bed so if you

have company that comes to stay with her they can stay on that in the bed but we haven't

had any company reckless and there we carry a tent for company yeah.

That's our guest room guest house so we do homeschooling so most of our home schooling

supplies new life home schooling then the computer so there's a laptop up front and the

iMac here we just acquired this one for mostly through the cameras and for the pictures

and stuff of course everything yeah definitely so our music area our kids are very much in

the music they play the the piano and mandolin ukulele guitar flutes tin whistle so that's

most of the storage for the instruments there then we have that children's bunk beds

another maybe carpenter so I just covered up with carpet washer dryer we love the shower

the showers he just passed over that like that was no big deal well you know it was a

mistake to install them oh really we don't use them the the washer is plumbed up rady use

but for us we don't want to do a load of laundry every day so it's just easier to let the

laundry build up and go to laundromat yeah you don't want to spend their time I mean run

this awesome traveling trip and we'll spend their time doing laundry so it's a waste of

space so getting yanked dirty our shower yeah we got really cheap it was for like fifty

dollars more we got this one for fifty dollars less we got a regular square one this one

is fifty dollars more and it's got nozzles and sticking with Everywhere's but I haven't

figured out how to hook up the the valve for the temperature properly yet so it's either

too hot for me or too cold for my wife okay so this is a super cheap so that's why we go

yeah require modification to get it because normally it's taller than this mm-hmm the

crown of yeah yeah but it's not I mean you have a lot of stuff but it's so wide open and

yeah.

I love the open air you haven't built like cabinets in front of whatever we're not out of

sight yeah I love those a lot of storage here too yeah this is a tongue yeah I have to ask

you about gas mileage everything is relative so we paid $7,000 for the bus.

So we figure that even though it takes a lot more fuel that kind of balance that so it's

Milo yeah probably half miles of the game yeah we've seen 30-foot even like 25-foot rvs

are getting the same thing yep so it's our last our view is that Cummings I'm 11 we got 10

to 11 miles to the gallon the 40 foot but it weighed 11 tons this weighs 26 tons.

Yeah we're carrying a lot more freshwater my battery ways to talk I mean it's relative

yeah I mean save probably from what I've heard talking to people sponsees it's kind of a

common number yeah so you mentioned RV parks you don't say in RV park this is the closest

to an RV park okay okay so does campgrounds or free parking dispersed camping and as you

make your way out west that's what you'll do is like the BLM land and the Forest Service

and that kind of thing yeah I think those are some of the best places anyway those are

our favorite and we're not paying for RV parks between stretch on our vacation or travel.

Absolutely so yep exactly well thank you for this tour this was amazing yeah awesome who

wants to play me a song anybody want to play anything for me to do it yeah don't get

nervous but thousands of people are gonna watch this you might be it.

It might be your big break it might be you.

Wow thank you so much that was amazing I love that rig I love their life I love what

they're doing with the kids and you know the exposure they're having to this crazy

lifestyle and they're seeing all these amazing things and what an adventure for all of

them and it doesn't require it's just unconventional yeah not living the way everyone else

lives or what you're supposed to do yeah yeah that's such a cool vehicle I don't think.

We could handle wow I'm having some in fewer two complexes check this yeah back to real

size doesn't matter babe see you next time carry on carry on.

Wait a minute. That thing only cost $7000 CDN? How the hell?

someone teach him about condoms.

Family of 8 with a super large gas guzzler?

Do they know about our planet's overpopulation and climate change problem?

gas guzzler翻譯:耗油量大的汽車,油老虎。

I love that they kept the overhead bins from before the bus became a tiny home on

wheels...I wonder about the comfort level of this huge bus...as opposed to a regular

motorhome...it looks great.

I only saw one bed?

WOW your channel just took a huge spike in views with this hum dinger of a clip. Just

amazing. Absolutely loved every second. Thank you.

I love this bus it's really nice I love have this for traveling very smart idea keeping

family first I love it.

Really cool video I love this Prevost bus the way you guys converted into a big RV bus.

I would never have thought of converting a bendy bus!

Very cool. That second bus idea is epic.

why do they put "distilleted" waterr over the batterys??

Dry land is not a myth! Man I want to join the caravan. So cool!

Awesome family vehicle.

Lol thousands of people are going to watch this! Haha got that right!

Is that Eliza Thornberry with the white beanie on?

Please dont talk too much, start showing what its got.

Wow! Now that's an RV! I was surprised to hear it was legal for as long as it is. I have

never seen a Motor home that long, ever. I loved it! Great place for a large family too.

I would be afraid to drive it myself, just to much vehicle! I wish you all the best of

luck !and happy motoring.

You guys do know you can put those clear thermal clings- it's like screen protector

material but it blocks UV rays instead- on those windows at the front to cut down how much

heat comes in, right?

Where do the children sleep.

So...weirdos?

This is what I want to do with my family...just need to find a gf that would love these

types of things. You're hella happy....you travel the countries......with your

family.......you own your home.......you don't have to feel like a drone or like you don't

have freedom working like every person that's has a stationary home....perfect bus perfect

family.

I myself would love to RV it around, but it is not for everyone, my cousin traded a nice

pickup for a 50 foot one, thinking him and his family of 6 would love it. 2 short road

sickness trips later he said he was cured of that. Sold it, but for a profit 6 months

later.
